In a first for American transportation, the U.S. plug-in car market will pass a significant milestone this month: the 100,000th plug-in vehicle sold since the introduction of the latest generation of highway-capable plug-in vehicles just over two years ago. Plug In America, the leading voice for consumer adoption of plug-in vehicles, is commemorating the historic moment with an award contest and by launching a counter on its website that tracks EV sales. The counter is updated using sales data from the most recent published reports.

Saturday, June 8, at National Harbor, our 11 high school teams from DC, Virginia and Maryland, will race their newly built electric vehicles.  They are one passenger race cars, sometimes called an aerodrome or electrathon vehicle.

MidAmerican Energy Co. last week said it will add up to 1,050 megawatts (MW) of wind generation, consisting of up to 656 new wind turbines, in the state of Iowa by the end of 2015.

The case, the biggest the Commission has ever targeted, highlights the balancing act facing Brussels as Europe tries to protect against cheap imports while needing China, the EU's second largest trading partner, to help it emerge from recession.

Another Southern Co. utility now has wind energy in its portfolio.

Georgia Power last week announced it has entered into an agreement with EDP Renewables North America that for the first time will add wind energy to the utility's energy portfolio.

Through the contracts, Georgia Power will source 250 MW of cost-effective wind energy from EDP's wind farms in southwest Oklahoma. The wind energy purchased through the contracts will provide enough electricity to power more than 50,000 Georgia homes, the investor-owned utility said. Georgia Power will begin receiving the wind power on January 1, 2016.
